Established in 1992, the Inspirational Speakers in Science Lectures
are held each year in conjunction with the Spring Health Professions
Forum and expose undergraduate students to prominent minority health
professionals and scientists.
Lecturers draw upon their personal experiences and share stories
that are sure to inspire and motivate others to achieve their personal
and professional goals. Determined, intelligent, and sometimes surprisingly
candid, the lecturers demonstrate how they overcame many of the
obstacles often faced by underrepresented or disadvantaged students.
The goal of this program is to influence young people to pursue
careers in the health sciences by boosting their self-esteem, showing
them that their dreams are within reach.
The ISIS video series, available for purchase through the NC-HCAP
office, documents these presentations and is an invaluable resource
for middle, secondary and undergraduate students.
