NC-HCAP Ambassadors Executive Board

LaVonne Hairston
President

LaVonne Hairston, a senior from Virginia, currently serves as the NC-HCAP Ambassador President. She plans to pursue a career as a Primary Care Physician and is passionate about helping eliminate health care disparities among underserved populations. LaVonne is excited about leading the Ambassadors toward a wonderful academic year full of community service and various activities designed to teach the student organization about the various health care professions. While busy with various tasks as President, LaVonne is a lab assistant in the Duronio Molecular Biology Lab, a Minority Advisor, a member of CPALS (Carolina Pediatric Attention, Love, and Support) and the Corresponding Secretary for the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Tameka Attaway
Vice President

Tameka is from Charlotte, NC. She is an advertising major and an Afro-American studies minor. She is interested in a career in dentistry and hopes to eventually serve as a pediatric dentist in an underserved area.

Kim Murrell
Treasurer

Kim Murrell is a senior psychology major with a minor in social and economic justice. She is from Beaufort, NC and plans to pursue a career in law. She currently serves as the certified treasurer and maintains the Ambassador budget and finances. Kim is also a volunteer at the Campus Y and CPALS.

 


Tiandra Murchinson
Secretary

Tiandra Murchinson, a senior from Sanford, NC, currently serves as the Ambassador Secretary. At present, she is pursuing her B.S. in Nursing and has already received her NC Nurse Aide I and II Certifications. She is also involved with CPALS, the Association of Nursing Students and the National Student Nurses Association.

Brittani Bonner
Parliamentarian

Brittani Bonner is the current Parliamentarian for the Ambassador program who hails from Edenton, NC. She is a senior sociology and afro-american studies major. After graduation, Brittani plans on going to Physician Assistant school, eventually hoping to practice pediatric or obstetric medicine.

 

Meka Asbury
Executive Coordinator

Meka Asbury, a sophomore chemistry major, plans to pursue a career in pharmacy. She serves as the Executive Coordinator and helps maintain the various committees of the Ambassador program. She is also part of the National Organization of Professional Advancement for Black Chemist and Chemical Engineers and is an American Red Cross HIV/AIDS Trainer. Meka participated in the 2006 Science Enrichment Preparation (SEP) Program and is a lab assistant in the Microbiology and Immunobiology Department.


Crystal Griffin
Internal/External Affairs Liason

Crystal Griffin, a senior from Elizabeth City, NC, hopes to pursue a career in law. She currently serves as the Internal/External Affairs Liason of the Ambassador program. She is also a secretary at Hedrick, Murray & Cheek PLLC, chairperson of the Wishlist Committee for the Women in Action of the Carolina Women's Center and she is a Guardian Ad Litem.

 

Latoya Cherry
Historian

A senior psychology major from Zebulon, NC, Latoya is interested in pursuing a career in medicine. She has participated in both the SEP and MED programs. She is involved in numerous other extracurricular activities such as office manager for the Olde Campus Lower Quad residence halls, MAPS treasurer and a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
